The Kiwanis of Little Havana Unveils ‘Gallo Fino’ By Laura Chirino As Official Carnaval Miami 2022 Poster
The Kiwanis of Little Havana is proud to unveil the official poster for Carnaval Miami 2022 titled “Gallo Fino.” Created by Miami-based, Cuban-born artist Laura Chirino, “Gallo Fino” is a vibrant tribute to her Cuban roots and her beloved Abuelo, known as Gallo Fino, with nostalgic elements of a historic Little Havana and the integral role the Kiwanis of Little Havana has played in cultivating Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood and preserving its cultural heritage for the past four decades.
“‘Gallo Fino’ embodies the essence of Miami’s rich and diverse Hispanic culture, while paying tribute to Laura’s family’s heritage,” said Alexander Perez, president of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana. “This year’s poster features classic Cuban elements, deeply rooted in tradition, as well as iconic symbolism unique to Little Havana.”
Born in Havana, Cuba, Chirino arrived in the United States at the age of 3. With a passion for art from a very young age, Chirino credits her upbringing rich in family traditions, as well as the beauty of Miami’s landscape as the root of her inspiration. Known for her bold mix of styles, ranging from sleek and contemporary to weathered and organic textures that add a subtle and sophisticated feel to her paintings, Chirino has been a recognized exhibiting artist at Carnaval on the Mile for more than seven years.
“I am honored to be chosen as this year’s poster artist by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana,” said Laura Chirino. “‘Gallo Fino’ represents my Cuban roots and was inspired by my Abuelo, who is still better known today as el ‘Gallo Fino.’ Remembering my grandfather’s struggle to maintain our household – all while keeping his faith, positivity and dapper-style intact – fuels my unrelenting motivation and drives my artistic passion. It is my hope that Carnaval Miami attendees will find their own inspiration within ‘Gallo Fino’.”
